Bert Timmermans (BE, °1976),
holding a PhD. in the History of Art, is a historian and artist. Timmermans deals with the stratification of history, its memory and amnesia, along with all of its replete as well as void spaces, and how these metamorphose reality. Timmermans’ artistic practice is rooted in the tradition of pioneering image archeologists Aby Warburg and Walter Benjamin, who studied the nexus between iconology and media, image and history. Works are created in multiple sessions, through procedures that build on the practical theory and theoretical praxis of montage. Timmermans works alternately with mixed media, paint, ink and collages or montages.
Bert Timmermans is founding member of WorkPlace (Antwerp) and collaborated with Tramway Anversois (Antwerp), MX 7 Gallery (Antwerp) and Roberto Polo Gallery (Brussels). The Centre for Modern and Contemporary Art of Castilla-La Mancha (CORPO) contains two series of his works.
